Early 18th Century Coat of Arms

About the Item

Rare and impressive early 18th century coat of arms, the whole carved in oak, the frame with relief carved strapwork on punched and worked ground surrounding coat of arms with foliate flourishes centered by a shield having a unicorn over a helmet surmounting a quartered shield, each quadrant divided in half and adorned with crescents, rampant lions, a cross and other devices, the whole in very good condition and featuring pegged construction (applying carving to the back panel) and having good color. The Latin inscription on the banner reads "Omne Bonum Dei Donum" (All good things come in the gift of god). This motto appears in many English and Irish family crests, but the iconography is specific to the Boughton Family, The two main lines of the family owned Lawford Hall and Rous Lench Court.
