Hand painted Tichelaar Makkum Dutch plates, Set of 4. Various sizes

About the Item

A collection of one octagonal bowl and three small saucers with polychrome painted basket of fruit in tones of red; yellow; green and blue. All items have holes at the back for haning on the wall. They would also perfect as wall decoration for a dining room. DIMENSIONS: Saucers: diameter 3"3/4 (10 cm); height 0.78" (2.5 cm) Bowl: diameter 6" (15.5 cm); height 1.3" (3.5 cm) Royal Tichelaar Makkum (1572) is the oldest company in the Netherlands and a worldwide household name in the ceramic field. The map from Caspar Robles' atlas of 1572 shows a "briccaria" or brick factory on the site where the factory of Royal Tichelaar Makkum now stands, making it the oldest evidence of a long company history. In 1640 the company became a family business and remains so to this day. In 1960, the company received the Koninklijke (Royal) designation on the occasion of its 300th birthday. Later research showed the company was founded much earlier. As a result, the company celebrated its 400th anniversary in 1994. Designers who have worked for Tichelaar include Jurgen Bey, Hella Jongerius, Studio Job, Alexander van Slobbe, Roderick Vos, and Marcel Wanders. The Tichelaar family has controlled the factory from the 1830s to the present. Jan Tichelaar is the thirteenth generation of Tichelaar family members to head the company. The factory currently works mostly on architectural tiles, and a very limited production of hand painted ceramics.
