Joseph Anthony Atchison Rare Art Deco Relief Panel "Nude with Torch, "
About the Item
Cast in aluminum, this rare relief panel depicts a kneeling nude male figure with a torch whose flame echoes the billowing folds of his drapery. The figure is wearing a helmet in the Greek manner, and is looking far afield, perhaps representing light or knowledge. The sculptor was Joseph Anthony Atchison, who was active in the Washington, D.C. area, and is best known for sculpting the Alamo Trophy in 1946, which depicts the Texan defense of the Alamo against the assault of the Mexican Army. Signed lower right and titled Fegit. Original background paint faded, as it was used outside.
