A large scale, near mint example of an iconic 1970s landscape vignette in earth tone colors, of circular form sculpted fiber pile of dyed layered fibers.
This Massive, 4-foot circular 1970’s textile fiber wall art is in excellent condition, of vibrant colors. The carpet sections are of a three-dimensional design are masterfully joined together to create a stunning tree of life landscape, with mountains and to the right a rising sun.
Mounted to plywood back, fitted with wire hanging hardware.
Mythology of Tree of Life:
The tree of life is a widespread myth or archetype in the world’s mythologies, related to the concept of sacred tree more generally, hence in religious and philosophical tradition.
The expression tree of life was used as a metaphor for the phylogenetic tree of common descent in the evolutionary sense in a famous passage by Charles Darwin (1872). The tree of knowledge, connecting to heaven and the underworld, and the tree of life, connecting all forms of creation, are both forms of the world tree or cosmic tree, and are portrayed in various religions and philosophies as the same tree.
