The monkey is a paradoxical character in Japanese culture and Shinto mythology; he is cunning and clever in some tales yet lustful and roguish in others — a foil to the more generous and stable aspects of human nature. Sometimes he is representative of greed, while other times he acts selflessly as a messenger of the gods. The monkey is a restless soul above all else, and a mirror for man to examine his own existence. ZAK AND FOX The story begins with none other than its namesake, drawn from Profera and his original canine companion. These characters are not facsimiles of the two – rather they represent the spirit of “man and dog”, figural archetypes that have coexisted throughout history for thousands of years, yet still find themselves reborn again and again through literature and cinema. At the heart of it, Zak and Fox are symbolic and symbiotic, with a curiosity and reverence for all the world may offer. Where Zak leads, Fox may follow; where Fox runs, Zak may chase. But no matter who may take the first step, they are at each other’s sides to see, feel, explore, and imagine all of the possibilities ahead as they venture into the great unknown.
