Henry Martin Gasser studied at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts where he earned his degree and certificate. He also studied at the Grand Central School of Art. As a member of the Art Students League, he worked with Robert Brackman & John R. Grabach. Gasser later became director at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts in 1946-55. He also wrote several publications including Oil Painting Methods, 1953; How to Draw and Paint, 1955; Techniques of Painting, 1958; Picture making 1962 and Guide to Painting, 1964.
Exhibited: Montclair Art Museum; Smithsonian Institute of Art; Guatemala National Fair; Denver Art Museum; Albany Institute of History and Art; National Academy of Design, (Julius Hallgarten Prize); American Water Club Society; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Mint Museum Art; American Traditional Artists of the 20th Century; Twentieth Century Realists, Fine Arts Gallery San Diego, 1966.
Member: National Academy of Design (rec. secretary, 1960-67); American Water Color Society (vice-president 1953); Audubon Artists; Water Color Club in Philadelphia; Washington; New Jersey; Baltimore; Art Association with Mississippi; New Jersey; New Haven; Irvington Art & Museum and Rockport.
