About the Item
Michele De Lucci was born in Ferrera Italy in 1951 and studied architecture at Padua and Florence until 1975 joining Cavart in 1973, a radical design group. In 1978 he moved to Milan, where he worked for Kartell.
He met Ettore Sottsass and joined the important Studio Alchimia designers group, creating for their Exhibitions several interesting design objects. In 1979 De Lucchi also designed several prototype household appliances, which were shown at the Milan Triennale although they were never manufactured.
From 1980 he was a member of the Memphis group, designing "Lido", a colorful sofa in 1982 and the "First" chair in 1983. In the late 1980s he designed with Giancarlo Fassina "Tolomeo", a simple functional aluminium work lamp for Artemide in 1987 which became a best seller.
In 1990 De Lucchi founded a small lighting company to produce lighting could be made by craftsmen using traditional techniques.
In addition his design studio continued to work for large firms and by 1979 he was a design consultant for Olivetti,whilst in 1993 he designed the branches of the Deutsch Bank
