About the Item

The mark used dates these remarkably beautiful cobalt and raised gold plates to 1930. Royal Worcester is one of the finest names in English china, and the fact that we have a full set of 12, all in very good to ecellent condition tells us this set was probably cherished and not used. Perhaps they were only cabinet plates on display, or perhaps (and we hope this is what you will do) they were placed at table in all their finery as chargers onto which a salad or entremet (first course) plate might have been carefully placed after guests have been seated and have enjoyed the beautiful table you've set for them. Then lifted after service (or even as they're replaced by first course plate) and removed from the table, only to return with dessert saucer, perhaps, for the meal's finale. Using them in this way will prevent them becoming utensil-scraped, and damaged in use. But after all, they are plates and are made for use, so by all means set them up and enjoy them. Just carefully so. These plates cost upwards of $500-$2000 per place if you can find them hand decorated in this raised gold enamel. I know because I price them in my travels. So buy the vintage and antique sets and let them just thrill you every time you use them, you thrifty savvy shopper, you. The set is remarkably well preserved for a set that's over 80 years old. I see no utensil marks, no scrapes or crazing, no chips or hairlines and no cracks. If there is a rub to the gold enamel, I have not yet found it. Aren't they just splendid! And in fine cobalt blue, the most elegant of all the raised gold plates, don't you agree? Well, those and my gold on white ones.
