Antique Napoleon III Diamond Keepsake Bangle
About the Item
Here we have a real historic piece of jewellery. It is engraved on the inside ‘Castendolo 21 Giugno 1850 accepts le en souvenir de moi Napoleon III’, which translates into English as ‘Casenedolo 21 June 1850 accept in memory of me - Napoleon III. This historically significant bangle was likely a gift given by Napoleon III to someone during this period.
On 25 June 1859 The Battle of Solferino took place in Castendolo, which resulted in the victory of the allied French Army under Napoleon III and Sardinian army under Victor Emmanuel II (together known as the Franco-Sardinian Alliance) against the Austrian Army under Emperor Franz Joseph I. It was the last major battle in world history where all the armies were under the personal command of their monarchs.
This wide chunky bangle is enamoured with an array of old cut diamonds in a foliated design with filled black enamel and beaded bordering.
