Antique Jade Charm Bracelet

About the Item

This gorgeous and unusual charm bracelet was created over time, as most charm bracelets are. The heavy chain itself dates to the Victorian era (circa late 1800s) and looks to be of English origin, as do the silver charms, the largest of which at the end is also a bell. Eight of the remaining ten charms are jade, one is carnelian and the last is glass. The jade charms are all natural and untreated and they were all hand-carved and polished. The presumed earliest charm dates from around the same time as the bracelet, the late 19th century. The green jade charms range in color from light green and white (moss in snow) to deep emerald green. There is also a single white mutton-fat white nephrite ring. There is also a yellowish jadeite ring. These hand-carved jade charms are gorgeous and several are pendant-worthy. They have been carved to depict flowers, a leaf, an eggplant with vines, a basket, and fruits or vegetables I couldn't identify. While I cannot date the carved jade charms with precision, I can say that none displays a polish associated with post-1950s jade polishing techniques so the bracelet was likely "completed" buy its owner/collector at around the 1930s, which is the date of what I believe to be the "newest" charm. The silver rings that attach the individual charms to the bracelet are not matched but are in all cases silver wire that has been shaped in various ways into a suitable bale or ring. This fantastic and slightly eccentric jade bracelet ships with a unique certificate from Stone Group Labs identifying each charm individually. All the jade is untreated and natural. The bracelet measures approximately 10" in length including the "S" hook clasp but because you can loop any of the links through the hook, this bracelet will fit a wide range of wrist sizes from the large to the small.
