Amazing 19th Century Snake Bracelet
About the Item
Amazing Antique Snake Bracelet from the mid 19th Century. The head and tail of the snake are composed of beautifully detailed, chased 18k gold with large cabochon sapphires for the snakes' eyes. The large fangs form the closure when the tail is clasped within.
The body is hand "crochet" woven sterling and gold wire in alternating striped intervals.
This bracelet is so unusual and extraordinary in its detail and conception.
Most snake bracelets from the period are either all gold or silver, usually rendered in a very realistic style. This example shows a fine jeweler working with a very refined eye, to create a bracelet that is more unique than the average high end offering of the period.
The detailing is really amazing...rendered with a lot of character and personality. The design is also wonderfully suitable for both men and women. 1870's USA.
Excellent condition for a jewel almost 2 centuries old.
