Large Estate Gemme Numari High Karat, 24k, 18k Gold Articulated Coin Bracelet
About the Item
Fabulous large high carat gold coin bracelet composed of six graduated 24K gold coins set in an unusual articulated 18K gold setting. This interesting design allows for eye-catching movement of the coins as they grace one's wrist. Six solid gold Mexican Peso coins of denomination 10, 5, 2 1/2 and 2 Pesos. Graduated, with the large 1959 10 Peso coin in the center, flanked by two 1955 5 Peso coins, two 1945 2 1/2 Peso coins and a 1945 2 Peso coin at the lock.
Gemme Numari, the practice of wearing coins as jewels traces back to Ancient Rome. Coins acquired during travels made for wonderful mementos of the trip and interesting conversation pieces when set as jewels in pendants, bracelets and rings. The Archaelogical Revival movement of the nineteenth century broadened the appeal of coin jewels with esteemed jewelers such as Castellani incorporating ancient and antique coins in his creations. Bulgari continued the tradition in the 20th century with their Monette line, with coins depicting Roman Emperors, Kings and other notable historical figures.
