Antique 18th Century Diamond Sequile Pendant/Brooch Yellow Gold Portuguese 1700s
About the Item
Antique diamond sequile pendant/brooch in 19.2kt yellow gold, Portugal, early 18th century. This Portuguese jewel from the Georgian period of an intricately pierced openwork “sequilé” design is richly accented throughout with 31 rose-cut and table-cut diamonds, the yellow gold embellished with profuse chiseled and scalloped decoration with volutes and foliate decoration, suspending five pear-shaped diamond-set articulated pendants. In line with other artefacts from this Rococo period, the back of this jewel is equally embellished with carved detailing. This jewel is secured to the top with a fixed bail pendant fitting; and with a later-added hinged pin and C-shape clasp brooch fitting.
