Antique Designer Frank Gardner Hale 14k Diamond Turquoise & Pearl Brooch Pendant
About the Item
Gorgeous and very Important Arts & Crafts Pendant / Brooch. This piece was designed by Frank Gardner Hale. It is made in 14 k yellow Gold and features 23 Old Mine Cut Diamonds with an estimated Carat weight of 1.50, four natural pearls, seven square turquoise and one oval turquoise. The piece measures 2 inches by 1.25 inches and weighs 15.7 grams. Frank Gardner Hale was one of the luminaries of the American Arts & Crafts movement. In 1906, after eight years as a designer of book and music covers, he moved to Chipping Camden in the Cotswolds to study silversmithing and enameling at C.R. Ashbee's guild of handicrafts. Hale subsequently worked in London with the accomplished Jeweler and Enameler Fred Partridge. In 1907, Hale established a shop in Boston and became a member of Boston's Society of Arts & Crafts. In 1915, the society granted him a prestigious Bronze medal for excellence, which was followed by many professional honors. One of Hale's greatest masterpieces ( an openwork gem set gold 7 Silver pendant on gem- set chains) has been part of the MFA's American Wing Collection since 2014. His work is diverse in style and form, but his aesthetic was nearly always colorful.
