Antique Victorian 15K Gold & Silver 2.82ctw Old Cut Diamond Brooch & Pendant
About the Item
A late Victorian diamond, silver and yellow gold brooch and pendant, comprising forty-four old European cut diamonds, and seven rose cut diamonds, set in silver, with yellow gold pin and fittings.
This delightful late Victorian brooch is formed as a central clyster of diamonds, topped with an asymmetric bow, foliate sprig, and finished with an elegant swag or garland. The brooch centres upon a large old European cut diamond, held within a pinched silver setting. The large diamond is bright, white, and sparkly, with wonderful clarity and colour. The central diamond is surrounded by smaller old cut diamonds, which are held within bezel settings, creating a flower-like motif. Atop this floral motif, is an asymmetric diamond set bow, with a central diamond held within a pinched setting, and the ears and tails of the bow studded with smaller sparkling diamonds. The bow appears as if tied to the foliate sprig, which branches from one side of the brooch to the other, an elegant diamond set tendril. From this, a swag or garland descends, set with large old European cut diamonds in pinched settings, which are interspersed with smaller bezel set diamonds. The large old European cut diamonds on this piece are simply exquisite, and are supremely bright and fiery, with good clarity and colour. The brooch is backed in yellow gold which as been rhodium plated at some point during its life. It is complete with a yellow gold safety catch and pin, and yellow gold loops allowing it to be worn as a pendant. A chain with a small clasp loop, or a double ended chain (with a spring ring at each end) would work best. This brooch is of the garland style, which was the height of fashion in the Edwardian era, this brooch is an early piece in that design, created in the very late Victorian era / very early Edwardian era.
The brooch is in excellent condition. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
