Antique Victorian Silver Montrose Agate Scottish Garter Brooch

About the Item

The Victorian Montrose Agate brooch is from 1860 to 1880 and is shown combined with a second Montrose agate brooch separately sold. I think Scottish agate is fascinating when stacked two together. Lovely luscious Montrose agate shows off its varieties of stripes in both the garter brooch and the deeper gray example. The garter is the symbol of the Royal Order of the Garter, the highest order of chivalry in the United Kingdom. Few are invited in and they are Royals or one who serves the royals. The order was founded in 1348 by Edward 111. Only the Victoria Cross is higher. Members of the Royal Order are chosen by the King or Queen.personally. The brooch, both actually are in perfect condition Two inches in diameter. Sits perfectly balanced.
