About the Item

Antique brooch in 18K Orange Gold dating from ca. 18th - 19th century set with Carnelian stone featuring miniature hand-carved/ engraved variation of Coats of Arms of ancient Swedish noble family von Belfrage: three severed Wolf heads and Crescent on the shield under Nobility crown. Not hallmarked / all metal parts in solid 18K Gold. Measures 3.8 cm x 2.3 cm. Top crown in Gold 19 mm x 7 mm. The stone is 2.5cm x 1.35 cm x 5 mm deep. Intaglio carving measures 20 mm x 10 mm. Weight: 10 grams Used finest condition. No apparent damage to the stone and ornament. Minor scratches on metal only. Footnotes: Belfrage is originally Scottish nobility kin that first appeared in Sweden in 1624 with first ancestor John, known in Sweden as Hans Belfrage, born 1614 in the town of Kirkcaldy, his mother Joneta Balram who had roots in the Stuart family. The father's name was Henrik Belfrage, and he was presumed dead at that time. The English name was originally Beveridge ("Beveritsch"), with Belfrage ("Belfritsch") as one of several variations. The name Bewrage is spelled John / Hans Belfrage's in the doping certificate. In Sweden, the English pronunciation of the name was perceived as Befritz. In 1666, Hans Befritz applied to become a Swedish nobleman, referring to his noble descent from Scotland, which was certified by the magistrate in the city of Culross (Fife) on April 28 of the same year. On December 3, 1666, the nobility was granted the name Belfrage No. 782, and the family was introduced at the House of Knights on August 27, 1668. > Most of the items that we sell are not new at all if not stated otherwise.
