Demantoid Garnet "Frog" Brooch

About the Item

Designed by gemstone-carving-master Alfred Zimmermann, following his designs of his one of a kind gemstones carvings. This unique frog brooch has been made in our own goldsmith workshop in Idar-Oberstein. The brooch was handmade in 18ct yellow gold, set with round- faceted green natural demantoid garnets, total weight 3.63 cts. and round brillant cut diamonds F-if 0.23 cts.. The origin of the demantoid garnets is Namibia. The eyes are tsavorite garnet cabochons with onyx and specially made for this particular jewelry creation. Truly a one of a kind piece.

    A late Victorian demantoid garnet and diamond brooch, the naturalistically modelled lizard encrusted with rose-cut diamonds and embellished to the spine with a row of nine graduated oval mixed-cut demantoid garnets, all silver set to a yellow gold mount, circa 1890, measuring approximately 6x1.9cm, gross weight 6.3 grams.
