Cartier, signed and numbered, Art Deco Diamond and Sapphire Platinum Antique Brooch and Hair Barrette, Signed and numbered by Cartier, this Art Deco jewel is magnificent. The natural unheated sapphires (probably from Burma), are a bright vivid blue, they are estimated to weigh 4.5 cts. The diamonds are all well matched, estimated to be F in color (colorless), and very, very slightly included (VVS) in clarity. They are estimated to weigh .98 cts. This piece can be worn either as a brooch or as a hair barrette. Leave it to the great jeweler Cartier to design a piece that can slide through fabric smoothly and easy to wear in the hair and, because this clip is slightly curved it will hold any thickness of hair. This is a striking Art Deco statement possessing very fine and unusual fancy cut diamonds and natural unheated Burma rubies This piece can be worn either as a brooch or as a hair barrette. The diamonds are extremely rare and visually exciting to encounter. In the trade these are known as French cut diamonds. They are colorless to near colorless (F/G), and very very slightly included to very slightly included (VVS-VS). The estimated diamond weight is 9.5 cts. The natural unheated Burma rubies are a vivid red color, they are estimated to weigh 3.74 cts. The design of this geometric brooch is superb and contains unusually fine materials set with the highest of craftsmanship; and, visually presents itself as striking and vibrantly vivid. This clip was made so that it could be worn on fabric or in the hair as a barrette.
