Edwardian Russian Demantoid Garnet and Diamond Gold Brooch

About the Item

A very finely made gold and platinum brooch. It is the best quality from the Edwardian period (1900-1914) with intricate detail and 9 very fine Russian demantoid garnet throughout. The edges of the settings are further decorated with millgrain work. Millgrain is derived from the French ‘mille-grain’, which literally translates to “a thousand grains”. This brooch is slightly curved like a moon shape. It may well have performed another function such as an attachment to a hair pin or collar.
