Egyptian Revival Turquoise Pharoah Sphynx Enamel Brooch Pin Art Deco Silver

About the Item

A rare Art Deco Egyptian Revival masterpiece. The stunning brooch is centered by the head of a Pharoah with a magnificent hand carved face in Persian Turquoise. The Turquoise face reflects the work of a master artisan. The Pharoah is flanked on either side by a beautifully modeled pair of reclining Sphinx with blue enamel headdresses. Below the Sphinx are Lotus Flower images with blue, red, aqua and white enamel. The brooch pin is Silver and dates to the Art Deco period, circa 1890-1920. It has its early C-clasp. The brooch could be easily converted to a pendant necklace if desired. For centuries, Ancient Egypt has held the fascination of the public and continues to inspire artists and designers alike. With the discoveries of Egyptian tombs, and the treasures within, in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the exotically opulent lives of the Pharaohs were beyond anyone’s imagination. Of all the precious objects unearthed in the tombs, the lavish jewels were perhaps the most fascinating for their extravagance and never-before-seen symbolism. The Roaring Twenties and the period’s Art Deco jewelry embraced the vivid contrasting colors, motifs, and symbols more daringly than ever before. Whether the jewels were complete, faithful reproductions or real artifacts preciously decorated in similar style, the Egyptian Revival jewelry during the Art Deco era is the most lavish and magnificent. The brooch is 1.5 inches (4cm) wide and is 3/4 inches (18mm) tall. The brooch is hallmarked on the back with a mark I cannot decipher and 800 for 800 Silver.
