Georges Braque Gold and Enamel Bird Brooch
About the Item
Georges Braque (1882 - 1963) was one of the major artists of the 20th century. He was most prolific as a painter but also well known as a collagist and sculptor. Braque worked with Pablo Picasso to develop the Cubist movement. For the last few years of his life, Braque also made jewelry in which he often incorporated themes of birds. This piece shows an enamel profile of a bird on a textured gold medallion. It is signed Bijoux de Braque Procris-R6 750. Procris was a mythological Greek princess whose image Braque often depicted.
The piece has a double pin stem making it easy to wear.
