Victorian Era 18k Gold Cat-Eye Chrysoberyl Pearl Arrow Brooch
About the Item
For sale a rare arrow brooch dated from the 19th century, the Victorian era. This brooch features a stunning yellowish-gray cat-eye chrysoberyl cabochon in the center: a precious phenomenon gemstone that displays a line in the center of the stone when exposed to light. The cat-eye measures 10mm in height and 7mm in width. The cabochon is framed with a circle of white seed pearls, as well as the tail and the point of the arrow. The brooch is mounted in 18K yellow gold and it is stamped with the French owl hallmark for 18K gold.
Arrows have been used in sentimental jewelry for centuries and have had various symbolic meanings over time. In the Victorian era, arrows were associated with sentimentality and affection. Arrows were often incorporated into jewelry pieces, such as brooches and lockets, as a symbol of devotion and fidelity. They were also used in jewelry to signify direction, pointing the wearer towards their true love or guiding them through the journey of life.
But what makes this piece really special is the use of the cat-eye chrysoberyl which is not often to be found. A cat's eye chrysoberyl gemstone is a rare and valuable variety of chrysoberyl mineral that exhibits a distinctive optical phenomenon known as chatoyancy. The phenomenon gives the stone a band of light that runs down the center of the stone, resembling the slit eye of a cat. Due to its rarity and unique optical properties, cat's eye chrysoberyl is highly sought after by collectors and gemstone enthusiasts alike. It is also the traditional gemstone for the 18th wedding anniversary.
This beautiful and rare cat-eye chrysoberyl arrow brooch will surely make its next caretaker very happy!
