About the Item
Exceedingly rare Victorian custom made hand carved gentleman's shell cameo brooch or pin - right facing portrait - a sign of wealth and prestige when worn by 18th and 19th century gentlemen (Napoleon wore one on his wedding day) - gold filled setting with tube hinge and extra long pin with 'c' catch - unsigned - United Kingdom (likely) - circa 1870's.
Good antique condition - old fine stress crack in the shell (not affecting the portrait) - minor oxidation of the gold frame along the top edge from age and use - all original - no loss - no restoration - ready to wear.
Size/Dimensions - 1 5/8" Wide x 1 3/4" High x 1/2" Deep.
