Victorian Hardstone Cameo Brooch Pendant
About the Item
A Victorian hardstone cameo brooch pendant with blue enamel and pearl surround, the hardstone cameo depicting a female face in the Roman style surrounded by a scalloped edge of blue enamel and thirty half-pearls to a cut down setting in a closed back gold mount with a detachable push clasp brooch fitting and a hinged pendant loop, circa 1860, measuring approximately 45 x 37mm, gross weight 24.3 grams.
This brooch is in excellent condition, later applied rat-tail and pendant loop. Unmarked tested as 18ct gold.
A beautiful Victorian cameo which in the fashion of its day, can be worn as a brooch or a pendant, from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales. This is a refined take on the popular cameo style, with a blue enamel border complementing both the carved Roman style portrait in the centre and the iridescent pearls surrounding it.
