A vintage Piaget diamond and gold flower suite, comprising a ring, designed with articulated gold mesh opening and closing petals, diamond set stamens and textured finished leaves, together with two diamond set flower brooches, both with gold mesh opening and closing petals and diamond set stamens, mounted in 18ct yellow gold. Circa 1960. The flower ring is mounted in gold, with mesh opening and closing petals, edged in gold, with Swiss-cut diamond set, articulated stamens, with platinum settings and textured finished leaves, on a polished gold shank, with French gold hallmarks for export, Mercury's head for gold and a girl's head for platinum, for export, 0750, for 18ct gold and a maker's mark R flower T, circa 1960. Estimated total diamond weight 0.45ct. Head of ring approximately 25mm, when fully open, 13.55g The smaller flower brooch, has gold mesh opening and closing petals, Swiss-cut diamond set, articulated stamens, with platinum settings and textured finished leaves, matching the ring, it is mounted in 18ct yellow gold, signed Piaget, on the stem, with French hallmarks, with three Mercury's head marks, for 18ct gold, for export and a girl's head for platinum, for export, 0750, for 18ct gold and a maker's mark R flower T, circa 1960. Piaget was founded in 1874 in the village of La Côte-aux-Fées, in the Swiss Jura Mountains, by Georges-Édouard Piaget, a farmer who built pocket watches during the winter for extra money. In 1911, Timothée Piaget, the son of Georges, took over the family firm and made the timepiece business a full-time endeavour. Its watches were built for other companies who placed their name on the timepieces. The founder’s grandsons, Gérald and Valentin Piaget, registered the Piaget brand as a trademark in 1943. Two years later, a new, larger manufacture was set up, in at La Côte-aux-Fées, producing its own creations and the family name became an international brand. In the late 1950s, the company began creating some of the thinnest watches in the world. In 1959, the first "Salon Piaget" was launched in Geneva. Expanding their business by displaying the first of Piaget's luxury jewellery creations, alongside their timepieces. Geneva became home to Piaget's goldsmithing and gem-setting workshops. Valentin Piaget asked the Maison's designers to "do what has never been done before." This instruction was followed in 1963 when the first watches with ornamental stones set into the dial were released. This was explored further with the colourful "21st Century Collection". Their glamorous and daring designs attracted the attention of some of the brightest stars of the time like Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, and Sophia Loren. Piaget’s display of artistry laid the foundations for collaborations with artists, beginning with Salvador Dalí in 1967. Piaget became synonymous with elegance, luxury and "beautiful people" under the 4th generation of the family with Yves Piaget. Piaget events became the place to be. The relaxed elegance of the time was crafted in gold in 1979 with the Piaget Polo watch, tying the brand to Polo, the sport of kings. In 2001 Piaget opened a new Atelier in Plan-les-Ouates. The company dramatically increased its jewellery business in the past 15 to 20 years. Their jewellery collections now account for more than a third of total sales for the company. Piaget, now owned by the Richemont luxury holding company, is still a family name. Yves Piaget, the chairman has been present for the last 50 years of the company’s history. In 1874, at age 19, Georges-Édouard Piaget (1855–1931) began manufacturing handmade timepiece components and movements in a workshop on his family farm in La Côte-aux-Fées, Switzerland. The company expanded into luxury wristwatches and pocket watches under the direction of Georges-Édouard’s son, Timothée Piaget. Later, Timothée’s sons, Gérald and Valentin Piaget, would lead a team of talented craftspeople into a new era of innovation for the brand in both watches and luxury jewelry.

The Piaget family name was trademarked in 1943 and a large manufacturing facility was established in La Côte-aux-Fées. There they would perfect one of their signatures: ultra-thin movements. Valentin urged his design team to “do what has never been done before.” In 1959, the Salon Piaget was opened in Geneva, where Piaget also set up workshops for goldsmithing and gem setting, introducing the company’s inaugural jewelry creations and establishing a creative hub where artisans were encouraged to push the boundaries of their designs. In 1963, Piaget released its first collection of watches with ornamental stones set into their dials (the brand's stone-dial watches are undeniable classics of watchmaking).

These artful creations caught the eye of such storied tastemakers as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Elizabeth Taylor, Andy Warhol and Sophia Loren. In 1967, Yves Piaget collaborated with Salvador Dalí on a collection with pieces featuring the Dalí d’Or gold medals of the artist and his wife, Gala. Gala would also inspire the 1973 Limelight Gala timepiece and the subsequent collection. Luxury jewelry designed by the company’s artisans have often cleverly reflected Piaget’s watchmaking origins, like the Possession collection, whose swinging pendants and turning rings nod to the movement of its watches. The Rose and Sunlight collections of bracelets, earrings and necklaces, meanwhile, reflect natural themes with a bit of Art Deco style. Piaget’s watches, likewise, have embodied an inventive approach to design, such as the Piaget Polo watch, which was introduced in 1979, popular for its luxurious refinement and widely imitated in the 1980s.

In 2001, the Piaget Haute Horlogerie was opened outside of Geneva, a facility that advanced its work in watchmaking and jewelry. The Swiss luxury watchmaker and jeweler now operates as part of the Richemont Group.
