Art Nouveau Chrysoprase Cuff Links

About the Item

These European Art Nouveau 18K gold chrysoprase or green chalcedony cuff links date from c. 1900. They are designed as double oval links, each set with a sugar loaf chrysoprase cabochon within a polished, chased and engraved surround of interlocking scrolls and beads against a matte finish, joined by bar links. These unique, beautifully-crafted cuff links in rich green and gold are a subtle and artful sleeve adornment. Product Details: Item #: CS-16420 Circa: 1900s Size: 0.75" length, 0.50" width Materials: 4 sugarloaf Chrysoprase cabochons; 18K Gold Signed: European control marks Macklowe Gallery Curator's Notes: Chrysoprase is a scarce, translucent form of chalcedony, or microcrystalline quartz. Its name derives from the Greek for "golden leek". Trace quantities of nickel silicate, nickel oxide, and free nickel ions dispersed within the chalcedony are believed to contribute to the luminous green color.
