Dazzling pair of museum quality chandelier earrings (collector's item), with electric foiled Emeralds. Inlaid with rose-cut and table-cut diamonds. Superbly preserved, dating from the late 18th century (1780). A set of sparkling flat rose-cut diamonds decorates each earring along with sixteen vibrant step-cut green emeralds. They range in value from 0.15ct (6 emeralds) to 1.20ct (8 emeralds), and total approximately 10ct in both. The galleries have ornate detailing and are fitted with three droppers at the bottom with a hinge in the center to allow them to swing and dance freely. The earrings preserve its original clip hooks and are divided into three bodies, the upper one can be separated and worn independently. Size: Height 80mm (78mm inc. hooks) x Width 23mm x Depth 5.5mm. Metal: Silver/ 18ct Gold (Tested) Stones: Emeralds (Major 6.46mmx 5.38mm, approx. 1.20ct each - 10 carats total), Diamonds (approx. 4ct total). A magnificent example of history, these long beautifully granulated chandelier earrings are set with amethysts from early c. 1790 and were made in the United Kingdom. They are light on the ear and completely original other than the shepherd hooks which are easier to insert rather than the back to front hooks.. Antique earrings are dear and rare to find in original condition, as many have lost the top section. These earrings superb quality, decorated with tiny orbs of gold ( granulation) applied on the long stem part. Father time knows how granulation adhered without glue or solder. The top and lowest section are engraved in repousse, the method of engraving where the gold sheet is pushed out into a design from the back creating volume and dimension. Floral designs cover the bottom inch of the earrings. The magical secret of Pinchbeck is that no expertise was spared in its creation, rather it took a master of alchemy and ingenuity to create the gold metal formula. Pinchbeck was that alchemist. He was a British Watchmaker. He concentrated on making the first fine gold metal that was not actually gold but became as valuable. Museum Quality antique late 18th / early 19th century chrysolite chrysoberyl pendant drop earrings in silver and rose gold, probably Portugal, circa 1800. Of elongated and slightly exaggerated outline typical of the period, this design complimented the high hairstyles of the 18th century and would be the perfect jewel for a special event nowadays. Each earring of an openwork design with a navette-shape cluster top suspending a partially-articulated drop-shaped section with floral and foliate motifs and rose gold beading, set throughout with circular, marquise, cushion and calibre cut chrysoberyl stones close-set in silver.
