About the Item
These gorgeous Hobé clip-on statement earrings, circa 1950s, are one of the brand's more fun and unique designs. A gold-plated leaf is decorated with gilded swirls, faux pearls and Aurora Borealis crystals. This centerpiece is surrounded by a halo of prong set clear crystals punctuated with baguette crystals. A truly beautiful addition to your vintage jewelry collection.
Hobé was founded by goldsmith Jacques Hobé in France in 1887. It was originally a fine jewelry line, with a costume jewelry division added in the 1920's by his son, William Hobé.
Hobé was hired by Ziegfeld Follies to design jewelry for their costumes and it is rumored that this is where the term "costume jewelry" originated. To this day, Hobé is one of the most coveted brands for vintage costume jewelry, with their beaded necklaces being one of their most sought after designs.
