Pair of ear-clips designed by Aldo Cipullo (1936-1984) for Cartier. Fabulous sculptural pair of ear-clips made in New York city by the jewelry designer Aldo Cipullo. This rare geometric pair was created during the collaboration period with the jewelry house of Cartier (1969-1975) as a designer. This pair of earrings are from the iconic "Circles" collection, and they were carefully crafted in solid 18 karats yellow gold with high polished finish. The yellow gold parts hug a circular element, carved from natural black onyx which is gripped from the back by two screws. They are fitted with comfortable hinged French omega backs for fastening clips and the addition of posts for pierced ears can be easily done. Coral: Mounted in posts settings, with 10 spherical cabochon cut (5.5 mm) of natural Sardinian red coral, with an approximate weight of about 12 carats. Weight: 39.95 grams (25.61 Dwt). Measurements: 35 mm by 30 mm (1.38 x 1.18 inches). Neapolitan coral and diamonds earrings. Beautiful and colorful contemporary pieces, crafted in the portuary city of Napoles, Italy in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished finish. These convertible earrings has been designed with a navette almond quilted shape similar to a cushion. Fitted at the reverse with retractables posts, for pierced or non pierced ears and comfortable French omega backs for fastening clips. Diamonds: Mounted in bezel settings, with 18 round brilliant cuts diamonds, 0.54 carats, white colorless F color, VS-2 clarity. Gemstones: Mounted in a quilted pattern, with 32 fancy cut pieces, carved from natural vivid red coral from the deep oxblood variety. Weight: 20.2 Grams, (12.95 Dwt). Red coral, or Corallium rubrum, is a branch-forming coral species found in the Mediterranean Sea and is the most valuable of all precious corals. Lakshmi coral, also known as triangular coral, is the best shape of coral stone. This triangular red coral gem is believed to be ruled by Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Neapolitan coral, started to be fished extensively and worked in Torre del Greco, in the year 1400, at the time when Livorno held the monopoly on the raw coral. Besides its apotropaic virtues, people started to associate coral to the marvelous capacity of the material to be processed and to the great skills of the artisans, comparable to that of an alchemist or demiurge. Thanks to the Bourbons, in 1715 the town of Torre del Greco became one of the most important centers in the processing and carving of coral. The king supported the development of craftsmanship by reducing the tax on imported raw coral, though he couldn’t start a factory in the town because of the boom of the French Revolution and of the eruption of Vesuvius in 1794. Ferdinando IV of Bourbon founded the first factory for the manufacturing of coral in Torre del Greco.
