About the Item

A striking pair of paste earrings in the form of a flower or rose, from the early 1950s. Although unsigned (as often happened with a brooch and earrings, where the brooch was signed and the earrings not signed), they are without doubt the matching earrings to an iconic C Dior/M Maer jewel, 'Wild Rose', a rare and beautiful design, the brooch (pictures are shown below) being 'en tremblant' (the central flower is spring mounted). For any collector or fortunate owner of this exquisite brooch, these are a welcome and noteworthy addition to any collection. As a pair of classic 1950s Dior earrings, they are a beautiful and classic addition to any wardrobe. Christian Dior was born into a wealthy family in 1905, being raised in the Normandy seaside town of Granville. Working first for Robert Piguet and then for Lucien Lelong as a head designer, during the war years, he then opened his own couture house in 1947. His now highly celebrated and iconic first collection ‘Corolle’ caused a sensation, and is now known by its more famous name ‘New Look’. From the very beginning of this couture house, jewellery played a very prominent part in his collections, initially recalling brighter and more romantic times, for example, the pomp and grandeur of the 18th century , its femininity and glamour, and later moving into extravagant experiments with Austrian stones and paste, throughout the late 1950s until the 1970s. Yves Saint Laurent , followed by Marc Bohan, continued the unique style pioneered by Christian Dior after his death. The fashion house goes from strength to strength today, with the wonderful visionary Maria Grazia Chiuri at the helm.
