From the Egyptians to the royal jewels of kings and queens, the cabochon emerald is one of the oldest and most coveted gemstones used since ancient times. Famous Egyptian emerald mines known as Cleopatra’s Mines were the world’s primary source of emeralds until significant deposits were discovered in the Americas in the 16th century. Emeralds signify abundance, prosperity, and growth within all aspects of life, especially expressed in nature.
These resplendent Diamond Emerald Garland Drop Earrings made by Spectra Fine Jewelry in the contemporary era, circa 2010, capture the beauty of nature’s bounty and feature two glorious drop-shape cabochon emeralds, weighing approximately 31.39 carats total (14.64 & 16.75 carats each). The emeralds are accompanied by report nos. CDC 1803560 A & B dated 28 March 2018 from C. Dunaigre stating that they are natural corundum emeralds of intense green color of Colombia origin with indications of minor clarity enhancement.
These sublime drops, designed for pierced ears fitted with posts and French clips, measure a dramatic 2.5 inches long (6.35 cm) with a total weight is 33.46 grams. Crafted in platinum, the symmetrical pair features a row of three flowers each composed of 6 pear-shaped diamond petals which radiate around a central round, alternated with two marquise diamonds. These sparkling strands culminate in a scalloped cupola-shaped setting reminiscent of an acorn hat, crafted in platinum and embellished with graduated round diamonds. The total weight of diamonds is approximately 11.57 carats of F-G colors and VS clarity. The rich garlands of flowers seem to dance, their glistening petals creating showers of scintillation before giving way to the pleasingly rounded organic forms of the emeralds below.
