Ancient Lapis, Agate, Carnelian, and Turquoise Beads with 22k Gold and Pendant

About the Item

Very small agate, carnelian, turquoise, and lapis lazuli beads, alternating with seventy 22k gold cylinder beads with a triangular carnelian bead pendant at the center of the necklace. The pendant is 1.2 cm at the base of the triangle, 5.5 mm in height and 3.4 mm in thickness at the center. The pendant tapers towards the points and from top to bottom, allowing it to be drilled through the thicker portion at the top. There are ten barrel shaped agate beads, pale brown with white banding that are just 5-7 mm in length and 2.5 mm in width. There are twelve cylindrical carnelian beads, 4 mm - 5 mm in length and 2.5 mm in width. There are twenty four turquoise disc beads, 2.5 mm in length and 2.5 mm in length. These are faced with very small lapis lazuli beads about 1mm in length ad 2 mm in width. Each of these different stone beads is faced with a gold tube and there is another lapis lazuli bead separating the gold tubes from each module. There is also a pair of very small granulated ring beads facing the pendant. This design is very reminiscent of ancient Egyptian jewelry of the Old Kingdom. The beads are contemporaneous with ancient Egypt but in fact come from Central Asia, what is now the area around northern Pakistan. The beads are notable for being very small which allows for a very delicate and light weight necklace. Beads of this scale are scarce and this necklace is the result of many years of collecting. The cylinder beads, clasp and beading tips are all 22k gold. The necklace is 20 ½ inches (52.2 cm) in length. The necklace weighs 10 grams.
