Antique Art Deco Whitby Jet bead necklace
About the Item
A beautiful antique very early 1920s Whitby Jet bead necklace.
It is made up from meticulously hand carved, faceted jet beads, polished to a very high shine which gives a wonderful shine and shimmer on movement.
Craftsmen were incredibly skilled in giving ordinarily matte materials such as jet or steel a wonderful twinkle, like diamonds in low light.
Whitby Jet is a highly prized material amongst collectors today and is made from fossilised wood dating as far back as the jurrasic era.
It's rich inky Black hue making it a popular choice for mourning jewellery.
The necklace fastens with a brass screw fastener.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, some light surface wear and scratches commensurate with age and use, a little tarnish to the brass fastener.
