Graduated Opal Bead Necklace

Sorry, this item from MS Rau Antiques has been sold.

Thirty-nine incredibly rare and large opal beads, weighing an amazing 386.00 total carats, comprise this outstanding necklace. The graduated gems are grand in size and perfectly matched, each exhibiting a mesmerizing level of translucence and color. These opals are among the most exceptional to be found on the market today. Opals are not cut into beads very often, as they are usually found in thin layers, and bigger deposits are extremely rare. Cutting the round structure also creates a great deal of excess? about 90% of the rough opal is cut away to create just one bead! To find 39 all-natural, matching beads of this giant size and exceptional quality is extraordinary beyond compare. The opals are adorned by platinum rondelles and secured with an 18K white gold ball clasp, all of which are bejeweled with 4.46 carats of sparkling white diamonds.

Opals are truly the stuff of legend. Revered for thousands of years by many cultures and once described by famous Roman author Pliny as combining the best possible characteristics of the most beautiful of gemstones, opals were relatively rare until the mid-19th century, when the first opal blocks were found in Australia.
