C.1880 Sterling Silver Venetian Box Link Watch Chain
About the Item
This is an original nineteenth century sterling watch chain with a substantial square shaped link called a Venetian or box link. Closeup photos reveal the interesting interlocking pattern of the links. A great deal of ingenuity went into making chains, and there is nothing like an original long Victorian watch chain that has never been chopped up into shorter chains, but retains its original length.
If you favor chains that are fabricated by hand, this chain is a real find. The links are 1/8 of an inch wide and the chain is 64" long. It can be wrapped 2 or 3 times around the neck. There is a dog tag from which to hang a pendant. There is no clasp ; simply put it on over your head and enjoy this authentic period sterling watch chain.
