Georgian Large Diamond & Bristol Blue Glass Drop Pendant with Hand Engraving
About the Item
Absolutely stunning and a rare find, this original Georgian period Diamond Pendant with Bristol Blue Glass is gorgeous for the collector but is still very wearable, as well.
Crafted of yellow gold testing between 15K and 18K for me, with silver settings for all of the 45 rose cut diamonds, the pendant features a beautiful tear drop shape blue Bristol glass tablet, in addition to a diamond set bail and a diamond flower element between the two. The reverse is just as lovely, with wonderful hand engraving. This is a sizable piece with an impressive presence.
At the center of the gold bezeled deep royal blue colored Bristol glass is a pear shaped rose cut diamond set in a silver cut down collet setting. Measuring approximately 7.5 x 5.2 mm, I estimate the carat weight to be approximately half a carat, or so. (it does appear larger, more like a .75 carat diamond, due to its spread) It's a very sparkly diamond, foil backed, with a lovely moody feeling as is common in this period. In very good condition, I see no damage to the stone and only some light wear to the setting.
Elegant silver scrollwork surrounds the pear shaped diamond, with small rose cut diamonds (approximately 1.5 mm) set at intervals. One diamond is missing - it could be replaced, if desired, but I have left it in "as found" condition for now.
Another 32 small rose cut diamonds (approximately 1.5 mm) are set around the outside edge of the drop, creating a beautiful, glittering border. These are again foil backed, in good antique condition; I see a bit of expected light wear under magnification.
The gold back of the large pendant is concave, with marvelous hand engraving of a foliate, scrolling style - that complements the silver work on the front.
Above, is a charming diamond set flower - also with fabulous engraving on the reverse. Each of the 9 small rose cut diamonds is foil backed, alternating between 2 mm and 1.5 mm in diameter, and a 2 mm diamond at its center in a cut down collet setting. They match the other rose cuts beautifully, and I see only one tiny chip at an edge of one diamond, visible with magnification.
Finally, there is the lovely little bail, set with 3 more rose cut diamonds. (the center approximately 2 mm in diameter, and the upper and lower each approximately 1.5 mm)
Together, the total drop length is approximately 1 and 7/8 of an inch (47.2 mm), the width at its widest part approximately 13/16 of an inch (20mm.) On my scale, the finished weight is a nice 7.64 grams.
I find this splendid piece to be in overall very good condition - other than the one small missing diamond, I see only light wear and a bit of old dirt. It must have been cherished and worn only on special occasions.

- Heavy French 18K Gold Step Cut Diamond Ring with Hand Engraving, 1.73 ctwLocated in Danvers, MAOffered is a vintage, heavy 18K gold French ring with a large, sparkly square step cut diamond center, and old European cut diamond shoulders. Elegant hand engraving adorns each side of the ring, with the center stone set off by platinum. The estimated total carat weight is approximately 1.73 carats; French hallmarks remain on the outside of the band. This is a striking and substantial ring that I think works equally well on a woman or a man. It's strong, geometric setting makes it eye-catching without being fussy. Measuring approximately 6.8 x 6.5 mm the prong-set step cut diamond center stone is estimated to be approximately 1.25 (perhaps as much as 1.35 carats), though its setting makes it appear even larger. With near-colorless color judged to be in the H-I-J range, the diamond is bright and faces up quite white. It does have inclusions, including dark carbon, though most inclusions are visible with magnification. I can see a few with my naked eye, but they aren't distracting to me, and aren't easy to see when the ring is on the hand. There is a little wear to the girdle of the stone seen with magnification - some tiny nibbles along the outer edge. I'm very picky about diamonds, but I love this ring even with the imperfect stone. It would also be possible to replace the center with another diamond or a beautiful colored gem, if desired. Each shoulder has three sparkling graduated old European cut diamonds, for another estimated .48 carats, or so. Chunky and very fiery with open culets, these diamonds are also in the near-colorless range and are clean to the naked eye. Under magnification I see a few small imperfections in some stones. With a major presence on the finger, the face measures approximately 18 x 9.91 mm, including the upper shoulders. The rise off the finger is approximatley 5.62 mm to the table of the central diamond. The shoulders taper gradually from approximately 9.6 mm down...Category
