Late Victorian Amethyst Necklace and Earrings
About the Item
A late Victorian amethyst necklace and earrings, the necklace consisting of thirty-nine oval faceted amethyst, all set in cut-down collets, suspending five pear-shaped briolette-cut amethyst drops each with diamond-set cap of foliate design, all mounted in silver to yellow gold back, accompanied by matching drop earrings with gold wire fittings, circa 1880, the necklace measuring approximately 42 x 3.8cm, the earrings measuring approximately 3.7 x 1.3cm, gross weight 54 grams.
Unmarked tested as silver and 9ct gold, the clasp and hooks as 18ct gold.

This late-Victorian necklace and earrings set comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. This striking rivière necklace and matching earrings are set with lush and vivid purple amethyst. Amethyst was a popular stone during the Victorian era when this set was created, due to its rich and attractive colour. This set is regal and alluring, perfect worn together for a special occasion.
