The Chain of Goldenhorn, 24K Yellow Gold and Silver with Diamonds, by Kurtulan Jewellry of Istanbul, Turkey. This necklace is made to order by Kurtulan in Istanbul, Turkey. HISTORY OF THE CHAIN OF GOLDENHORN Byzantines used to defend Golden Horn against the attacks with this chain. Fatih Sultan Mehmet led ships over the land (Taksim) because of this chain. This chain was repaired several times throughout history so that there are different pIeces on it. The chain was made in 7s system. There are 7 7 parts (pieces) on it. In 1453 when Fatih Sultan Mehmet attempted to conquer Istanbul Byzantians made a chain to defend the Golden Horn. Since the ships back then were light weighted it was possible to block them with a chain. Due to the ships being stopped by the chain and their vulnurebilty when they stay behind the chain Fatih led the ships over the land and conquered Istanbul with this tactic. For a long time this story considered to be a myth but an associate professor has concluded this to be true after his research. This chain consists different parts. Throughout history when the chain was being restored new pieces were added for example a round piece for switers (ropes to tie cuckleboats), a piece like scissors which we still don’t know exactly what purpose it was used for. Since the original chain was made with hammering technique it is similar to the way we make our jewelry.
