11 Carat Diamond Swag Pendant in Platinum on White Gold Omega Chain, Circa 1980

About the Item

This gorgeous, unapologetically large pendant was originally a gorgeous, unapologetically large brooch, custom-made by a New York jeweler in the mid-1980s. Eytan Brandes converted the brooch to a showstopping pendant -- a much sexier and more contemporary look when you consider the only garment heavy enough to support a pin this large would be a coat or a heavy wool dress -- not very sexy. As a pendant, on the other hand, you can wear it against bare skin. Add a simple black cocktail dress and you've got instant impact. The workmanship here is completely astounding. Because some of us at Eytan's have OCD, all 133 stones have been painstakingly measured to come up with an estimated total diamond weight of just over 11 carats, summarized for your sanity as follows: 1 brilliant cut pear: 0.62 carats 2 brilliant cut rounds: 0.41 carats 14 tapered baguettes (0.03 carats to 0.14 carats): 1.17 carats 20 brilliant cut marquises (0.07 carats to 0.50 carats): 2.99 carats 96 straight baguettes (0.01 carats to 0.19 carats): 5.89 carats Ninety-three of the meticulously graduated baguettes are horizontally channel-set to create the pendant's vertical "ribbons." The remaining 17 baguettes are vertically channel-set to create three "stems." The other stones are all prong-set to suggest leaves or berries. All of the diamonds are excellent quality, earth-mined, natural & untreated; Eytan rates them G color and VS1 or VS2 clarity. The setting, including the new bales added to the back, are platinum. The pendant weighs 27.5 grams and measures 1.5" wide x 2.5" long. The accompanying round omega chain* is new and weighs an additional 6.4 grams. It's 14 karat white gold, 16" long and 1.5mm thick. This chain will be a workhorse; not only does it look great with our pendant, you can wear it with just about any other pendant -- no matter how small the bale -- because the lobster clasp screws off! (The bales on this pendant are not, it should be stated, unusually small; the interior dimensions of each loop are about 3.5mm x 3.5mm.) Truly a one-of-a-kind piece. Please contact us with any questions or if you want to see the ridiculous four page spreadsheet listing all of the stone measurements and estimated weights. * If you would like just the pendant without the chain, or you would like us to help you source a different kind of chain, please just let us know!

  • 150 Carat Custom-Cut Golden Quartz & Diamond Pendant in White Gold
    By Eytan Brandes
    Located in Sherman Oaks, CA
Story time! About ten years ago, one of Eytan Brandes' customers bought this enormous quartz at a gem show and asked Eytan to make her a diamond pendant to show it off. Eytan made the pendant, set the diamonds, added a fixed chain, then, well, he dropped the quartz. It didn't break, but it suffered an internal (not surface-reaching) fracture that is more or less visible depending on the angle of the pendant. You can see it in the photos for yourself. Eytan told the client, went back to the original gem dealer, and ordered up another enormous custom-cut quartz. Since the measurements of the new stone were different, he made an entirely new pendant for the new stone and the customer went away happy. Phew. That left Eytan with a big flawed quartz and a big gold pendant. Fast forward to 2022: after years of languishing in the back of the safe, Eytan decided that it would be a shame to deny these two outlandish baubles a chance. He made some changes, though. First, he dipped the pendant in rhodium, turning it white. Then he removed the chain, which oriented the pendant horizontally, and he added a new bale (fashioned from a 1950s white gold wedding band!) so that the pendant now hangs vertically. The 82 diamonds on the halo are all tiny but good quality (G-H color and VS clarity) natural, untreated earth-mined and full cut diamonds with a total weight of 0.40 carats. The four diamonds on the bale are of lower quality (probably more like J-K color and SI clarity), with an estimated total weight of about 0.04 carats. The quartz is a 150 carat...

  • "Gosh" Freeform Pendant in 18K Gold with Diamond & Beryl Slice on Sapphire Chain
    By Eytan Brandes
    Located in Sherman Oaks, CA
This one-of-a-kind pendant by Eytan Brandes features a freeform slice of gold, set with a diamond, over a freeform slice of goshenite. Goshenite is a variety of beryl -- basically aquamarine without color. We acquired a little pile of this stuff -- the palest of pale blue and oddly cut -- and were at a loss as to what to do with it until Eytan hit on the idea of setting one of them in a bezel with an oxidized (blackened) inside pan. We love the end result. The swirly pattern of the oxidization plus the faceting plus the minute coloration of the stone combine to give this humble gem a truly unique, shimmery look -- worthy, even, of a hearty "Gosh!" (if anyone actually said "gosh" anymore...) By contrast, the diamond, bezel-set to float in the opening of Eytan's 18 karat gold shard, involves absolutely no hanky-panky. It's an earth-mined, natural and untreated stone weighing 0.04 carats -- a small but high quality sparkler (Eytan rates it G-H color and VS2 clarity). The hand-wrought pulled wire bale is roughly oval-shaped and oversized, since Eytan envisioned his pendant would be paired with beads (which generally require a bigger bale than a chain), but removable. We think our choker-length strand of faceted but rough sapphire...
