Ancient Roman First Century BC Horse and Rider Coin Diamond 18K Gold Pendant

About the Item

An exquisitely detailed depiction of a galloping horse with rider adorns this authentic silver "denarius" coin issued in the Roman Republic in 67 BC. It is set within an ancient-inspired handmade matte-finish line textured bezel with a 1.8 mm VS1 diamond accent below, designed by Steven Battelle. This denarius coin (which was approximately the daily wage of a solder or craftsperson in those times) was issued by the moneyer (mint authority) Caius Calpurnius Piso, The moneyer Caius came from a plebeian family and was the son in law of the famous statesman and orator Cicero. The horseman galloping is likely a reference to the games of Ludi Apollineres which his ancestor C. Calpurnius Piso proposed in the 3rd century BC. These solemn athletic games were dedicated to the god Apollo, the god of healing, who is shown on the other side of the coin. This pendant is sent with a laminated coin certificate of authenticity. The woven triple-spiga 18K chain shown is not included, but can be ordered additionally. It comes in a 20 inch length. We discount our chains 20% when ordered with a pendant.

An interesting, authentic, silver denarius coin from the period of the Roman Republic in 79 BCE, featuring a griffin leaping, is set in a Steven Battelle ancient inspired handmade matte-finish textured bezel mount with 1.8mm VS1 diamond accent. The denarius was approximately the daily wage of a soldier in ancient Rome. This particular type of coin is known as a denarius serratus. The ragged edges of the coin are intentional (all coins of this type have them) to show that coin is pure silver. The minting of the coins was an annual office shared by 3 men, and they often placed the family name on the coins. This coin was minted by moneyer L. Papius, who was probably from Lanuvium, which was about 19 miles outside of Rome. The reverse side of the coin displays...
