An Art Nouveau Enamel, Diamond And Gold Pendant By Masriera
About the Item
An Art Nouveau enamel, diamond and gold pendant by Masriera, depicting a lady in profile wearing a red enamelled headpiece embellished with rose-cut diamond-set decorations, to an openwork geometric frame with blue, green and pink enamel decorations, and suspended by a gold pendant loop, mounted in yellow gold, signed Masriera, bearing later French import marks for 18ct gold, circa 1910, measuring approximately 4.5 x 3.1cm, gross weight 15.4 grams.
This antique pendant is in very good condition, the enamel with minor signs of wear, consistent with its age.
This wonderful pendant comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales is emblematic of Art Nouveau style. The focal feature of this pendant is the image of a woman in profile, wearing an Italian Renaissance style trinzale cap which is decorated with glittering diamonds. The frame surrounding the female figure is of classic Art Nouveau design, decorated throughout with the typical Masriera plique-a-jour enamel. Masriera was founded in Barcelona in the nineteenth century and was well-positioned to be at the forefront of the Spanish Art Nouveau movement. A stunning piece.
