About the Item
This is a rare Art Nouveau Limoges Enamel Pendant in 18 Karat Gold. The magnificent portrait of a woman is signed by the artist Jacques Bonnadier. Bonnadier was a French Enamel Painter renowned for his exquisite work. This portrait of a woman with a winged headdress has a gorgeous face with long eye lashes and a beatific expression. Her blue and green headdress and green robes are a stunning iridescent green. Creating this iridescence requires a master artisan and Bonnadier excelled at creating the iridescence. The woman is portrayed on a gorgeous deep red background. The portrait is surrounded by a magnificent Art Nouveau design in 18 Karat Gold. The frame has acanthus leaf and flower motifs. The jewel is signed Bonnadier Limoges. The jewel is a very fine work of wearable art by a renowned artist. The pendant dates to circa 1900.
The Art Nouveau period was characterized by its creation of nature inspired jewels and this is one of the most beautiful pieces we have seen.
Limoges Enamels have been produced since the 1200s. They have been collected throughout the centuries by avid collectors. The artists creating jewels during the Art Nouveau period created some of the most beautiful Limoges images. These Art Nouveau pieces are rare as they were created in very limited quantities, each being a unique piece of original art.
The pendant is 1 3/8 inches (35mm) tall including the bales. Without the bales the pendant is 1 1/8 inches (30mm) tall and is 7/8 inch (22mm) wide.
The pendant is 18 Karat Gold.
