Edwardian 12K White Gold Diamond Lucky Horseshoe Pendant
About the Item
Circa 1900, this 12k gold lucky horseshoe pendant contains 25 sparkling single cut diamonds bead set with bright cut work. The setting has scalloped edges along the bottom outside border; the inside border is a nice clean line that balances the intricate opposite edge in a nice composition. The result is an illusion setting that captures more light to make the diamonds appear larger. We’ve converted this piece from a pin to a pendant by removing the pin stem and adding a bail so that the pendant dangles off to the side.
The pendant contains 25 natural single cut diamonds that measure approximately 2.75 mm each. Total carat weight is approximately one carat. The diamonds are G-H-I in color and SI in clarity. Unmarked, the pendant tests as 12k gold and the bail and jump ring test as 14k. The pendant measures 1 5/16” x 1 1/8”. It weighs 6.57 grams.

- Edwardian 1900 Horseshoe Lucky Pendant In 18Kt Gold With Demantoids And DiamondsLocated in Miami, FLEdwardian belle Epoque necklace-pendant-brooch. Fantastic lucky pendant-charm, created during the Belle Epoque period in the Edwardian era (1901-1910), back in the 1901. This stunning piece has been crafted in the shape of a horseshoe in solid yellow gold of 18 karats, and is fitted with a movable ring on top to wear in a chain or a charm's bracelet. It is embellished with a fantastic assortment of natural earth mined gemstones; such twenty-one (the lucky number) white colorless diamonds and twenty-three vivid green demantoids garnets. Demantoid Demantoid is the green gemstone variety of the mineral andradite, a member of the garnet group of minerals. Andradite is a calcium- and iron-rich garnet. Ferric iron is the cause of the green in the stone. Although garnets have been known since ancient times, the demantoid variety was not discovered until 1868 in Russia's western central Ural Mountains. The find was an alluvial deposit about 110 km from Ekaterinburg, north by northwest along the Bobrovka River, near the village of Elizavetinskoye. Miners were immediately stunned by the highly refractive nature of the gem material, which is atypical for garnet. They began comparing it to diamond and referred to it as "demantoid", from the old German Demant, meaning diamond. The reason is obvious, with its high brilliance and dispersion. However, as demantoid garnets are quite rare and found in so few locations, they can command quite high prices, especially if they have a particularly lovely horsetail inclusion. Most stones are less than one carat in size after cutting in polishing. Demantoid gems...Category
