Etruscan Revival Garnet Enamel Gold Pendant Necklace Circa 1860 Museum Quality
About the Item
This is one of the most stunning antique 19th Century Garnet Enamel jewels we have seen. The Etruscan Archeological Revival pendant features a magnificent blood red Bohemian Garnet cabochon of gorgeous color and size set in a 14 Karat Gold Enamel beaded design. The garnet is surrounded by magnificent gold and enamel work of the highest quality. The pendant is very characteristic of the work of the master Italian jeweler Castellani, who created Etruscan Revival jewels of the highest quality in the mid 1800s. The pendant is unsigned but is most likely by Castellani. The beaded and braided gold borders surrounding the garnet are wonderful. The work is highlighted by the halo of pear shaped enamel fringe. The enamel border is green and cream color with the cream color sections adorned with hand applied gold beads. The pendant has an articulated gold bale. The central garnet is absolutely magnificent and is 16mm by 11mm and it sits 3mm above the gold setting. The Etruscan jewels are characterized by exquisite hand applied micro beading and this pendant is a masterpiece of the technique. The pendant dates to circa 1860.
The pendant is 1 1/2 inches long (38mm) including the bales. Without the bales the pendant is 1 1/4 inches (31mm) long by 1 inch (26mm) wide. The pendant is 10mm deep.
