French Rose Cut Diamond Bee Fly Insect Bug Pendant Brooch Antique 18 Karat Gold
About the Item
This is a rare and wonderful antique French Belle Epoque Bee Insect Brooch or Pendant set with Rose Cut Diamonds in 18 Karat Yellow Gold. The French Belle Epoque insect jewels are of the highest quality and exude the elegance of the period. The bee is exquisitely made. The bee is fully modeled and sits atop a leaf or flower motif. The wings are adorned with gorgeous Rose Cut Diamonds. This whimsical jewel will dance delightfully around the neck or on your favorite jacket or blouse. The Victorians adored their insect jewels and this bee pendant brooch is amongst the most beautiful and elegant we have seen. The brooch dates to circa 1860 but has the clean lines and stunning design of a timeless almost contemporary jewel.
Provenance: From the personal Paris collection of one of Cartier's most esteemed Jewelers who created some of Cartier's most exquisite designs.
The brooch can be worn as a pendant with a chain through the back of the pin stem as we have shown. A bale can also be easily added to the piece.
The pin stem is marked with the French Horse Head Hallmark for 18 Karat Gold which was used from 1838-1919, as well as with a maker's mark.
The brooch is 27mm by 27mm, 1 inch in diameter.
The bee is 12mm in length.
The brooch is 18 Karat Gold.
