Garnet Turquoise Amethyst Locket Pendant Austro-Hungarian Renaissance Revival
About the Item
This Locket Pendant is a magnificent piece of Austro-Hungarian Garnet, Turquoise and Amethyst jewelry. It is in the Renaissance Revival style and dates to circa 1870. The gems are all set in silver gilt as was the custom of the Austro-Hungarian jewels. In the center is a gorgeous Bohemian Garnet cabochon. The garnet is 9mm by 7mm. Surrounding the garnet are Amethyst, Turquoise and Pearls all set in raised cut down collets. The gems continue onto the bale with a Pearl, Turquoise and Amethyst. The locket opens to reveal places for two photos if desired. I love the way the gems are set in the raised settings on the locket creating a visually stunning and dramatic piece. It is very rare to find Austro-Hungarian lockets and we are always thrilled when we do. The reverse of the locket is adorned with a stunning and ornate engraved design. The locket pendant is in the Renaissance Revival style. The overall effect of the gems and the beautiful silver gilt in this early antique piece is truly magical.
The locket pendant is 2 inches (50mm) long including the bale.
Without the bales the locket is 1 3/8 inches (35mm) tall and is 1 inch (26mm) wide.
The locket pendant is silver gilt - silver with a gold wash.
