About the Item
This is a very rare antique Victorian Snake Pendant Necklace depicting a snake or serpent wrapped around a Wishbone with a natural Pearl egg or globe. The snake is beautifully created with stunning three dimensional design in 10 Karat yellow gold. The dramatic design with the head of the snake reaching out to touch the pearl is particularly wonderful and adds greatly to the mystique of the jewel. The egg or globe is a gorgeous natural Pearl adding to the nature inspired imagery of the pendant. The element of Good Luck with the snake wrapping around the Wishbone is such fabulous imagery and is sure to bring good luck to the wearer. The snake pendant dates to circa 1850-1900. It is extremely rare to find these early snake jewels and we are so excited when we do. The combination of the stunning rendering of the golden snake with the wishbone and the natural pearl create a wonderful antique jewel that is full of both drama and whimsy and the power and beauty of the natural world.
And snake jewelry is all the rage today. In the Victorian era the snake was the symbol of eternal love. It has come to symbolize sexuality, rebirth and wisdom.
The snake pendant is 21mm long with the bales. The snake portion without the bales is 15mm long. The pendant is 9mm wide.
