About the Item
This is a magnificent Victorian - Belle Epoque Picture Locket Pendant Necklace in Black Enamel over Sterling Silver with Pearl adornments set in a Star Motif design. This is one of the most stunning Victorian locket necklaces we have seen. The locket is an oval locket in Black Enamel with a star motif set with a Pearl in Sterling Silver. The locket opens to reveal two picture compartments with their original inserts and glass covers. The magnificent and very rare chain has rectangular stations decorated with Black Enamel with the star and pearl motif in each section. I just love this chain! The reverse of the chain and locket are also black enamel but without the pearl adornment and the the necklace can be worn on either side if desired. The bale is enameled on the front and is hallmarked Sterling Germany. The picture locket necklace dates to the Victorian to Belle Epoque period circa 1840-1890.
The locket is in excellent condition. It opens and closes securely.
The chain has a few spots of surface enamel damage. This is very minimal and is almost impossible to see, but I wanted to mention it.
The locket is 1 1/2 inches long (40mm) not including the bales. With the bales the locket is 2 inches (52mm) tall. It is 1 1/4 inches (30mm) wide. The full pendant portion is 3 inches long.
The necklace is chain is 19 inches long.
The locket is hallmarked Sterling Germany.
