Rare Antique European Diamond and Ruby 14 Karat Yellow Gold Cigarette Case Box
About the Item
Incredible, rare antique cigarette presentation case made of solid 14 karat yellow gold. This stunning collectors piece features a textured ridged design embellished with diamond and ruby gemstones, scripted signatures of European nobility, colorful enamel family crests and crowns in varying designs. The sleek, compact design with chain feature allows for easy access and storage. You will not find another piece like this one!
This incredible box is bursting with intricate detail work. The solid 18 karat yellow gold case has a vertical ridged design throughout the entire piece. The front cover features 5 different embellished crowns, 2 family crests, 5 signatures and one set of initials. There is a hinged opening with a compartment for cigarettes measuring 3.13" x 1.88" x .63". An additional hinged opening on the top reveals a match compartment with a strike plate on the underside of the lid. The back of the case has 3 crowns, 5 signatures, a single ruby stone and another set of initials. There is a chain cord at the corner, as well as another small hinged opening for match storage measuring 2" x .63" on the side. The signatures are said to be names of European nobility, such as N. Dolgoruky, Gladys de Gris and Aloys. There are a total of .15 carats of diamonds (I-J / I1-I2) and 2.60 carats of both natural and synthetic rubies in this piece.
It is stamped with German maker Crown & Sun, used between 1888 and present day, 585 for 14 karat gold, and Berlin.
This is an antique piece in good overall condition, with some visible signs of wear that are consistent with age. Wear includes discoloration and dullness on metal and some scratches throughout. There are also a few missing stones, accounted for in the appraisal. However, other than cosmetic imperfections, the case itself is in great condition and everything is in working order. This item has an independent appraisal (full appraisal available upon request) from the Jewelry Appraisal and Gemological Institute with a value of $27,999.00.
